This beach has been in the Orange County line up of top surf spots for decades. It is best known for its slow and smaller waves which make it a great fit for long boarding although short boarders and body boarders still try their way at the waves once in a while. The waves come in quite a ways off of the beach so you have to paddle out quite a bit. Long is the beach making it great for long walks during the day or towards night time.
Summer brings tourists and all of the life out when it gets warm and heats up. Unfortunately however Doheny is also known for its very bad water quality which continued to grow worse with time due to it being next to a sewer pipe that feeds some really gross stuff into the water.
Many know this beach for its’ campsite where many will post up tents and RV’s during the winter and mostly the summer months. Make sure to wear your sunblock but prepare for fun as there is always something going on at this beach including lots of big bonfires and outings. Fortunately there have not been many shark attacks or any of that kind at this beach and has been a pretty safe beach overall atleast from my knowledge of living in the area 23+ years.
