The hacking group known as “anonymous” have recently just hacked into 70 law enforcement websites and have not only taken confidential data but are spreading it around the internet. Apparently around 10 gb of data such as credit cards and other essentials have been compromised.
10 GB is a lot of data to steal when you are talking about documents and databases which take up less space than that of media files. Consumers familiar with electronic devices such as iPhones and Android devices may be thinking oh well that is about a few cd’s or dvd’s worth of music. However, when talking about documents this is a major problem. You can have hundreds and thousands of microsoft word documents or pdf’s fitting within 1gb of space which means that these hackers took an incredible amount of information. Most unfortunately as well; once information is out there in the digital world it cannot technically be reclaimed or secured because it is so easy to share and replicate among websites and people in so many locations that the best offense really is better defense and preventative measures to make sure it does not happen in the first place.
“These governments and corporations are our enemy,” the statement said. “And we will continue to fight them, with all methods we have at our disposal, and that certainly includes breaking into their websites and exposing their lies.” ( MASHABLE quote from hacker group LulzSec )
Apparently for whatever reasons it may be, these groups are angry at us and are going to keep attacking our governments technological resources. We must unite and protect!
